CITES is the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora. This is an international treaty that controls the trading in endangered species of all types of life: animals, trees, plants, bugs, etc.
There are three levels of control:
See www.cites.org for the official CITES website.
Chichester Canada, Inc. generally does not export species covered under CITES because of the extensive paperwork required to obtain permits both in Canada and in the importing country, the long delays involved (up to six months), and the high costs.
We support the work of CITES and believe in its mission. We only trade in legally acquired items and strictly observe the law.
CITES Export Permit Fee
The minimum order is C$1,000 for CITES orders. The C$1,000 is for the total value of CITES items and does not include the value of any non-CITES items on the same order/shipment, shipping costs, or other fees.
All CITES orders are subject to a C$275.00 CITES export permit fee for orders valued below C$2,000.00 not including the value of any non-CITES items on the same order/shipment, shipping costs, or other fees. The CITES export permit fee is charged per shipment. This fee must be paid prior to our preparing the paperwork and is non-refundable.
