These medical rugs are made using lambskins. These rugs have very dense wool that is 3 cm (~1.2") long. They are Eco-tanned without the use of heavy metals, using natural tanning agents (e.g., Relugan GT 50) which causes the yellow hue. The exact formulation is a trade-secret but the tanning meets European Union regulations for an environmentally friendly tanning process.
Lambskins' wool is said to have many beneficial health properties:
Thermoregulation - It maintains constant body temperature.
Ventilation - It is breathable and prevents the the body from overheating during sleep.
Hygroscopicity - It absorbs 40% moisture, i.e. sweat, and is easy to get rid of during airing.
Incombustibility - It's fibers are carbonized in fire; it does not spread it.
Neutralization of positive ions - It replaces positive ionization caused by artificial fibers and products, replacing it with a negaive that is natural to the human body.
Lanolin - The wool fiber coating hinders the growth of bacteria and dust mites, protects against dirt, and pollution stays on the wool surface making cleaning easier.
We measured one medical rug at random on the hide side and it was 104 cm long, 59.7 cm wide across the top, 80 cm wide across the middle, 81 cm wide across the bottom, and weighed 1.03 kg.
